Lot 47.  Babe Ruth Bust Vacuum Tube Radio. This magnificent collectible consists of a beautifully restored original 1930s Bosch radio with reproduction baseball finials and a bust of Ruth added. Made of hard resin, they are exact reproductions of the originals used in the radios by Abbotwares. One ball reads “One Season 60 Home Runs,” while the other says “Lifetime 714 Home Runs.” Inside the restored radio, not a transistor or microchip is in sight. It uses vacuum tubes and other technology from the first half of the 20th century to pull in radio stations from near and far. Outside, the mahogany cabinet is impressively restored with a lacquered finish typical of many fine pianos. Great Ruth display.

Lot 49.  Babe Ruth Display with a 1934 Chicago World’s Fair Mini Bat, 1926-27 Card. Very rare 16” mini bat produced by Hillerich & Bradsby says “World’s Fair Chicago 1934” to the right of the company logo, and on the end of the barrel, there is a “George Babe Ruth” facsimile signature. Some wear, ex. The card, #6, is from the W512 set. Tightly trimmed and vg. The bat and card are housed in a 16” x 22” x 2 ¼” wood display case that is lined in green felt. An outline of a baseball diamond is in the upper right corner of the felt. The bat and card are described on engraved brass plates. Seldom-seen bat in a unique Babe Ruth collectible display.

Lot 50.  1959 Sign Advertising the Serial Version of “The Babe and I” by Clare Ruth. In the 1959 book, Babe’s wife gives her version of her life with the baseball icon and of his blacklisting by baseball. Newspapers around the country carried portions of the book in serial form. This 11” x 14” sign promotes the serial in the Evening News of Harrisburg. The blue, white and black silk-screened sign has some tape residue along the bottom edge and a single, light 1 ¼” crease from the lower right edge. Its overall appearance is ex+.

Lot 51.  Collection of Periodicals with Babe Ruth Covers. Complete publications unless noted. 1. Mid-Week Pictorial, Aug. 5, 1920. Ruth is on the cover, and he appears again in a center-spread titled “Babe’ Ruth, Mighty Batsman Who Has Broken Home-Run Record.” Through July 19, Ruth had slugged 31 home runs. He would hit 23 more before ending the season with a record 54 homers. This complete issue of the Mid-Week Pictorial with Ruth on the cover is uncommon. Nice vg issue. 2. Youth’s Companion, April 29, cover only, vg. 3. Liberty, April 16, 1932, article inside on the upcoming season. Vg-ex, looks better. 4. Babe Ruth’s Baseball Book for 1932, 98 pages, and photos of Ruth throughout. Name, date written on front; otherwise, vg+. Scarce. Includes 23 baseball lessons by Ruth, World Series information and tips on playing each position. 5. American Boy, April 1935. Vg. 6. The Literary Digest, April 20, 1935. Article inside - Ruth joins the Boston Braves. Vg. 7. Babe Ruth As I Knew Him by Waite Hoyt, 1948 from Dell. News stand pencil note on cover; otherwise, ex. 8. Saturday Evening Post, July 22, 1950, back cover with a Ruth ad, ex. Also, a 1983 first-day cover, Ruth stamp. Sev- eral scarce publications here.

Lot 52.  Joe DiMaggio Wire Photo, Premium and Glove Collection. Two original wire photos, one showing DiMaggio standing with Ted Williams at the 1949 All-Star Game at Ebbets Field and the other picturing him making a running catch in Game 1 of the 1950 World Series. The first photo is 7” x 9”, and the second, 8” x 10”. Both display well, with several inoffensive creases and sharp clarity and contrast. The 8 ½” x 11” Sport magazine premium, dated March 1947, features a head and shoulders image of DiMaggio set against a solid, bright orange background. Nm. The Hutch glove, which is g-vg, has a repaired wrist strap, and the owner’s name is present. The debossed “DiMaggio” stamp has been traced over. Lot 53.  1932 Lou Gehrig Model 40 LG. This 32” bat has the “Powerized and Bone Rubbed” designation used in 1932. Gehrig’s facsimile signature is on the barrel. Chips missing from the back of the knob and barrel. No repairs. Engravings are deep and strong. Bat displays as vg-ex. 2. Late 1960s Mickey Mantle Model 125 “Flame Tempered.” Mantle’s facsimile signature is on the barrel, and “MM4” is on the knob. Back of the bat has a repair made with nails. Front displays as vg-ex. 3. 1976 Joe DiMaggio Model 125 Bicentennial Bat. This 36” black bat with gold markings has the Bicentennial logo. DiMaggio’s facsimile signature is on the barrel. Some wear, vg+ to ex.

Lot 547.  1924 Detroit News Announcing Babe Ruth’s Plans to Swing for the Fences. Full April 12 sports page announces: “Ruth to Abandon Place Hitting for New Home Run Record.” The paper says Ruth will no longer focus on “dinky hits” and a “fat batting average,” but will try to break his 1921 record of 59 home runs. Ruth hit .393 with 41 home runs in 1923. In 1924, as he slugged 46 HRs, his average dropped to a league-leading .378. In 1927, he hit 60 HRs and batted .356. Newspaper page is brittle and has edge chips. Unusual Ruth collectible.

Lot 548.  Stated First Edition of “The Babe Ruth Story” by Ruth and Bob Considine. Extensively illustrated 1948 book is vg-ex with the scarce dust jacket in a protective cover taped to the book. The tape has stained the front and back end-pages.

Lot 550.  1968 Fedtro “Private - Lee” Earphone System Endorsed by Mickey Mantle. This system for listening to a 1960s television or radio through an earphone is in its original package on an oversized card. The connectors common today were uncommon then. Being able to listen through an earphone was complicated. Mantle’s endorsement of this contraption appears on one side of the card. Ex+.

Lot 551.  Joe DiMaggio, 1939 Baseball Hall of Fame Ashtrays. A 4” round ashtray shows DiMaggio batting and says “Joe DiMaggio, New York Yankees.” Ex-m. A 3” x 4” ashtray featuring a drawing of the “National Base Ball Museum, Hall of Fame” celebrates the 1939 Centennial of baseball. Ex-m.

Lot 552.  1950 New York Yankees A.L. Champions Pennant, 1970s Pennant. Both full-sized. The 1950 pennant, blue on white, shows a player sliding into home. Vg-ex. The 1970s pennant has the Yankees logo at the left, contains the MLB logo and says “New York Yankees” in red on a dark-blue field. Tack holes, otherwise vg+ to ex.

Lot 553.  1951 New York Yankees Sketch Book (Yearbook), notable because it features the last appearance of Joe DiMaggio as a player. He retired at the end of the season. The World Championship team is pictured. In 1949, the Yankees began a streak of five straight World Championships. Vg-ex.
