Tickets & Stubs   4 Lots

Lot 182.  Original 1947 Full Ticket for the First Baseball All-Star Game at Wrigley Field. We admit it. We’re not big fans of tickets. Of course, we encourage you to like them. And to spend a lot of money on them in our auctions. This two-part ticket is an exception, however. It’s large (2 ¼” x about 7”), nicely printed, and the condition is a solid ex with the only thing approaching a crease being a small “ding,” noticeable mainly on the back, in the lower right corner. It’s also from a pretty good baseball game. What was supposed to be a slugfest turned into a pitchers’ duel. Johnny Mize hit the game’s only home run, which accounted for the National League’s only scoring. The N.L. pitchers were also effective, but a throwing error by the Boston Braves Johnny Sain opened the door to the A.L.’s winning run. Ted Williams had two hits and Joe DiMaggio drove in a run in the junior circuit’s 2-1 win.
Winning Bid $390.

Lot 183.  Rain Check for an 1895 Game of the N.L. Boston Beaneaters. Corners on the right side are chipped, and there is a ½” tear at the left. All text is present; some pencil writing on the blank back. Scarce.
Winning Bid $110.

Lot 184.  Rare 1914 Federal League Ticket Stub for the Brooklyn Tip-Tops. The Federal League survived only two seasons, 1914 and 1915. Vg. In the Federal League universe, Brooklyn ticket stubs are extremely rare.
Winning Bid $218.

Lot 185.  Ticket Stub for the 1943 All-Star Game at Shibe Park, Vintage Athletics’ Pin. Paper may have been in short supply in World War II, but Major League Baseball nevertheless printed a large ticket for the 1943 All-Star game at Philadelphia’s Shibe Park. The 2 ¾” x 5” stub with rain check carries two facsimile signatures of Connie Mack. The ticket shows creases, some chips along the bottom edge and stains on the back. Still, it displays very well. With the ticket is a vintage 1 ¼” pin that features “Philadelphia Athletics” in white and the team’s elephant mascot on a blue background. Attached to the pin are purple and white ribbons and a vintage baseball charm. Some wrinkles in the ribbon; ex pin and ball.
Winning Bid $125.
