Lot 873.  4 Rare, Vintage New York Yankees, Giants and Mets Baseball Pennants. 1. This scroll pennant commemorates the Yankees 1958 American League Championship.  Although this full-sized pennant has faded somewhat and has a few pin holes, it is exceedingly rare.  We haven’t seen another example.  Mantle and Berra are among the names on the scroll.  2. New York Giants Mini-Pennant, vintage 1930s-40s and 3 ½” x 9”, features a pitcher and text in gold on a blue felt field.  It reads “New York Giants.”  One pin hole; otherwise, ex-m.  3. Full-sized New York Mets 1960s pennant features a batter in the foreground and a silhouette of New York City in the background.  The pennant is made of navy blue felt with white lettering reading “New York Mets.”  While it has a few pin holes and the tip is missing, it also is tough to find and has an ex-m appearance.  4. New York Yankees Pennant commemorating Casey Stengel’s 70th birthday on July 30, 1960.  Given the nature of the event, this 11 ½” x 5” pennant is very scarce; the production was limited.  The pennant pictures Stengel, and the text says “Yankees 70 Years Young July 30 1960 Happy Birthday Casey.”  White ink on a red felt field.  Nm.  Together, these four pennants represent interesting slices of baseball history in the city that never sleeps.
