Lot 454.  Very Attractive Early 1900s Wool Baseball Uniform from Reinhart Athletic Goods of Scranton, Pa. Gray striped jersey and pants. The jersey has an orange “HD” or “DH” on the left side. It also has a black collar and black cuffs. Outstanding condition. Superb for display. Ex-m.

Lot 455.  1908 Reach, 1920s Rawlings Right-Handed Fielder’s Gloves. According to stamping on the front, which includes the company logo, the Reach glove was patented in March 1908. This unlaced glove has a leather-strip web. Made for a youth or adult with a small hand, it has a Reach button on the back to fasten the strap. Substantial discoloration to this glove, which has pliable leather. The 1920s Rawlings glove, Model G19, is unlaced except for a two-lace pocket. One lace is broken and the stamping is light. The leather is pliable, and the glove serves as an attractive 1920s example.

Lot 456.  1940s MacGregor-Goldsmith Bobby Doerr, Wilson Ray Schalk Baseball Gloves. Both the Doerr fielder’s glove and the Schalk catcher’s mitt are for right-handers. Doerr’s own glove helped him to earn a place in the Hall of Fame in 1986. This MacGregor-Goldsmith glove, unlaced except for the web, has readable stamping on the front and a strong cloth logo on the back. Lacing in the web is broken; otherwise, ex. Gloves recognizing Schalk, the Chicago White Sox’ Hall of Fame catcher, are uncommon. Although Schalk played his final game in 1929, this Wilson catcher’s mitt was made under a patent issued in 1941. Stampings are very light but readable, and there is no evidence of a cloth patch. Rare pair.

Lot 457.  1914, 1916 Advertisements for Coca-Cola Featuring “Big Six,” Christy Mathewson. The ad from 1916 is a full 11” x 16” back page of the August issue of The American Boy. The complete issue and the ad are vg-ex with an ex appearance. There are two baseball stories inside the issue. The 1914 ad, 5 ½” x 16”, is from an inside page of the Sept. American Boy. Ex.

Lot 458.  Original 1954 Johnny Mize Red Man Tobacco Poster. Red Man Chewing Tobacco advertisement, 12” x 15 ½”, with Johnny Mize and the slogan “My Steady Chew for Years.” Vibrant, strong colors, two small, very light creases, otherwise very clean with an nm appearance. Advertises Red Man cards and Red Man’s “Big League Style Baseball Cap” premiums. These caps, which are scarce, were available for 50 stubs from the Red Man cards. Beautiful display and an interesting piece of baseball card history.

Lot 459.  Rare 1951 Negro American League Scorecard with Satchel Paige, Other Stars. This four-page scorecard served the league’s four teams - the Philadelphia Stars, Chicago American Giants, Kansas City Monarchs and Indianapolis Clowns. Paige, with uniform #29, is listed as a pitcher for the Giants. Other notable figures are Parnell Woods of the Giants, Monarchs manager and first baseman Buck O’Neil, Clowns manager Buster Haywood and Stars manager Oscar Charleston. Vg+, looks better.

Lot 460.  1947 Brooklyn Dodgers Yearbook Featuring Jackie Robinson. Titled “Baseball’s Beloved Bums: The Brooklyn Dodgers” and written by Joe Hasel, this 80-page 1947 yearbook is filled with photos, statistics and anecdotes. This updated edition features an insert noting the arrival of first baseman Robinson and manager Burt Shotten. The finest example of this yearbook that we’ve seen. Tight ex-m copy.

Lot 461.  Huge “Legends of the Game” Photo Poster Showing Jackie Robinson stealing home plate in the 1955 World Series. Yogi Berra blocks the plate. Mint poster is 23” x 35” matted and framed to 31” x 43”. Display the photo with a late 1960s Louisville Slugger “Flame Tempered” Store Model 125 bat. Robinson’s facsimile signature is on the barrel of the 33” R17, which is vg+ to ex.

Lot 462.  1963-65 Green Base Detroit Tigers Mascot Bobbing Head. Colorful ex example with a hairline crack on the back of his head and several small chips on the figure itself and some tiny chips on the base.

Lot 463.  Scarce 1960-61 Los Angeles Dodgers Bobbing Head Doll on an Orange Wood Base. The figure has two moderate head cracks and one substantial crack, which has been repaired. The base and body are free of problems except for some light soiling. The Dodgers doll is one of the less common figures in this set.

Lot 464.  1961-63 White Base Los Angeles Dodgers Bobbing Head Doll. Could somebody straighten this kid’s hat and do something about his hair?!! This doll is the decal variety, and the decal exhibits some chips. The doll has a crack at the base of his neck and otherwise is free of cracks. Decent collectible example.

Lot 465.  Dealer or Collector Special: 20 Matted Star Baseball Photos + 5 Football. Each photo is attractively matted with a brass name plate below the image. Baseball players are: Aaron 2 different, Belle, Campanella, Clemente, Erskine 2, Grace, Koufax, Lofton 3 including 2 different, Jackie Robinson, Skowron 3 different, Duke Snider, Mo Vaughn 2 different and a photo with Snider, Hodges, Campanella and Furillo. Football players: Jeff Blake 2 different, Nitschke 2 different, Jerry Rice. Photos and matting are nm-m. These photos came from a dealer who had them priced at $7.95-$11.95, for a total of more than $250.

Lot 466.  Philadelphia Athletics Memorabilia. Scorebooks, scrapbooks, team-issued photos, rosters and a 1931 letter from Connie Mack. The letter, to a York, Pa., resident seeking a tryout with the Athletics, carries a secretarial signature. It is collectible and desirable because of the letterhead, which shows Thomas S. Shibe as the team president and Mack as the treasurer and manager. Usual folds and very clean. Comes with the original envelope. Scorebooks: Three scorebooks, all neatly scored. Two cover the 1940 season, and one, 1942 home games. The source of these books is unclear, but they appear to have been scored by a pro. Scrapbooks: One is actually a notebook filled with box scores for 1941, and the other is a scrapbook with a loose assortment of 1940 box scores and pictures from newspapers. Rosters: Five, for 1942, 1948, 1952 (2) and 1953. Elephant Trail, the team’s newsletter, 13 issues: 1947 #1, 1948 #3, 1949 #3, 1950 #2, 4, 5; 1951 #1 (2), 1952 #2-5, 1954 #1. Team-issued pictures: 1938, 1939 team photos. 1937-39 player photos, Brucker, Lodigiani, Lynn Nelson. 1930s-40s player photos, Caster, Chapman, Gantenbein, Hayes, Moses (2). Also, three snapshots. The collection also includes a Baseball Magazine premium of Ed Rommel (f-g) and a note with a secretarial signature of Roy Mack. More than 40 individual items.
