Lot 443.  1975 Hostess Near-Set of 47 Panels. Each panel consists of three cards. Three panels are missing: 16-18, 94-96 and 100-102. Of the 47 panels (141 cards) present, almost all have the dotted lines all the way around them. Many panels retain The Sporting News advertisement. Some panels have a fold line just inside the bottom edge of the card, as produced, because of their location on the Hostess box. They include panels #7-9, 10-12, 19-21, 88-90, 91-93, 106-108, 109-111, 115-117 and 130-132. Key cards that would grade at least nm individually are #5 Morgan, 23 Brock, 29 Rose, 37 Winfield, 48 Yastrzemski, 52 Fingers, 56 Carew, 58 Ryan, 80 Yount, 83 Bench, 126 Palmer, 133 Schmidt, 135 Stargell, 138 Munson, 143 Fisk, and 148 Hunter. Solid ex-m near set with many better cards. As a bonus, there is a 5 1/2” in-store display for Hostess cards and seven duplicate panels that include Palmer, Aaron and Gibson.

Lot 444.  Nm 1976 Topps Baseball Set of 660 + a Traded Set of 44. Key cards: #1 Aaron ex+, 19 Brett nm, 98 Eckersley rookie nm, 240 Rose nm-m, 270 Stargell ex, 316 Yount nm+, 330 Ryan ex, 345 Ruth ex-m, 480 Schmidt ex-m+, 550 Aaron ex-m+, 599 Guidry rookie nm-m. Overall, the regular set and the traded set average ex-m to nm.

Lot 445.  1 1976, 11 1980s Uncut Sheets Including a 1981 Donruss Set. Five sheets making up the 1981 Donruss set show light wear along the edges and at the corners and some toning on the back. A small number have creases. The 1976 sheet is fair with creases and a tear at the bottom. Key cards are Seaver and Munson. Comes with three identical strips of 22 update cards. Sheet A for the 1984 Topps set is loaded with stars - Mattingly and Strawberry rookies, Seaver, Yount, Boggs, Molitor, Fisk, Ryan, Carlton, Henderson, Fingers, Jackson, Morgan, Carter, Sandberg, Jenkins, Winfield and Schmidt. Nice sheet with only a couple of creases and printing “snow” on some cards. Also from Topps, two different sheets of Nestle cards, one vg and one vg-ex. 1985 Topps Sheet A has the Puckett Rookie and Jackson, Gwynn and Boggs. Ex-m. Also, a 1985 partial sheet of 55 cards with Rose. Ex. A 1981 Topps Super “Home Team” sheet has complete cards of 10 Mets and 20 Yankees. Ex-m.

Lot 446.  Card Sets, Memorabilia Issued in Conjunction with the EPSCC-Philly Card Show. Bob Schmirer and Ted Taylor, original promoters of the Philadelphia Card Show, apparently produced these three sets. 1. 1976-77 “Bowman” 1947 Set. Using the 1948 Bowman format, this set contains 113 player or manager cards plus two unnumbered cards, one showing the Honus Wagner T206 card and the other, promoter Taylor. Two of the Wagner cards are included, but not Taylor’s. Nm-m. 2. 1977 Philadelphia Favorites set of 25. Some foxing on six cards; otherwise, nm+. 3. 1979 Philadelphia Doubleheaders set of 30. Foxing on the Mack card; otherwise, nm-m. The following are from the Eastern Pennsylvania Sports Collectors Club: 4. Phillies “1915 National League Champions,” uncut 11” x 14” sheet of 20 cards (2 sheets), very close to ex. 5. “Phillies Baseball Card and Memorabilia Checklist Book,” edited by Schmirer and Taylor, 1979 1st ed. PB, vg-ex. 6. Six promotional items including cards of Eddie Sawyer, Skeeter Newsome and Spook Jacobs.

Lot 452.  1981, 1982, 1984, 1985 Donruss Sets. 1984 and 1985 are factory sets with the cards in the original wrapping. The 1981 set is ex-m. The 1982 set, an unwrapped factory set, is nm+ with #405, the Ripken rookie, nm-m centered 60:40.

Lot 453.  8 TCMA “Play Ball” Sets, 1942-49. In 1983, TCMA produced cards as they might have looked if the “Play Ball” brand had continued. The cards feature Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and Stan Musial in the “1942” set, Jackie Robin- son in the 1947 set, etc. TCMA issued sets for 1942-45 in 1983, the 1946 set in 1984 and the 1947-49 sets in 1985. Each set consists of 45 cards, for a total of 360. Nm-m.

The colleges represented with baseball figures are Antioch (Series 126-150) vg with a stain on the back, Fordham (Series 1-25, Second Edition) vg+ to ex with a packing stamp on the back, Haverford (Series 101-125) vg+ to ex with minor stains on the back, University of Kentucky (Series 25-50, Second Edition) vg and Penn State (Series 1-25, Second Edition) vg. Lot 558.  1911 Philadelphia Athletics Partial Fold-Out PC, Original Envelope. Celebrating the Athletics’ 1910 World Championship, this postcard has been torn apart at the folds, and one of the two-player panels is missing. Panels present are: Barry-Baker vg-ex, Bender-Livingstone vg, Coombs-Thomas vg-ex, Davis-Collins ex, Lord-Strunk vg, McInnes-Krause vg, Morgan-Murphy vg-ex, Oldring-Hartsell vg, and Plank-Lapp vg-ex. The folder in which the panels were attached also is here; vg.

Lot 559.  3 1911 PC798-12 Postcards by Alfred James Dewey. Consisting of 12 cards, this is the classiest of the “comic” baseball pc sets. All three cards were issued as supplements to the Boston Sunday Post in 1911. #222-5, “A Single,” in the Post May 26, vg+ to ex. #222-6, “A Double Day,” May 21, g+ to vg. #222-9, “A Costly Error,” vg.
