This “enlarged” 1984 “first Morrow edition” hardback presents the “Story of the Early Days of Baseball Told by the Men Who Played It.” Ritter captures these stories in 360 pages of text and photos. Ex-library copy, back end-page removed, vg. The 33 1/3 rpm record album, far scarcer than the book, features the voices of Chief Meyers, Sam Crawford, Goose Goslin, Rube Marquard, Davy Jones, Fred Snodgrass, Edd Roush and Lefty O’Doul. Lot 788.  “The Big Baseball Book for Boys” + a Seldom-Seen Promotional Die-Cut. Published in 1931, this baseball primer, written “for boys - big and little,” has an introduction by Ty Cobb. It contains pictures of him, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson and others. First edition, vg book, no dj. While the book is somewhat available, the die-cut promotional piece is extremely uncommon. Both sides of the 4” x 3 ½” catcher’s glove promote the book. It has a small crease at the top and displays as ex-m.

Lot 790.  3 Early 20th Century “Merriwell” Dime Novels by Burt L. Standish. These three paperbacks, all published by Street & Smith, are: “Frank Merriwell’s Club,” No. 68 in the Merriwell Series, 1901, back cover missing, front cover detached, f. “Frank Merriwell’s New Boy,” No. 134, 1906, f+ to g. “Dick Merriwell’s Magnetism,” No. 148, 1907, f+ to g. Most of the Standish books were actually written by Gilbert Patten. Along with Horatio Alger, he was the most popular author of the 1890s.

Lot 791.  Signed Copy of Charlie Grimm’s Autobiography Personalized to Bob Prince, the Pittsburgh Pirates broadcaster. Considered a real “Good-time Charlie,” Grimm was also a solid hitter (.290 lifetime with 2299 hits) and an outstanding first baseman. Also an excellent manager, he led the Chicago Cubs to three N.L. pennants. His autobiography, titled “Baseball, I Love You! Jolly Cholly’s Story,” was published in 1968. This first edition copy is nm, and the dust jacket is ex. On the front end page, Grimm wrote, “To Bob Prince, With All Good Wishes Always,’ Charlie Grimm, 1968.” His signature in black ballpoint is large, bold and 10 of 10. Grimm died in 1983. This copy represents an outstanding item for Cubs or Pirates fans. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 792.  Signed Copy of “Second to Home,” Ryne Sandberg’s Autobiography. Sandberg autographed the title page. His signature is a 10. Nm-m book and dj. A Gold Glove fielder, Sandberg hit more home runs than any other second baseman. He was admitted to the Hall of Fame last year. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 793.  “Dynasty: The New York Yankees 1949-1964” Signed by Author Peter Golenbock. A New York Times best-seller, Golenbock’s “Dynasty” is the definitive history of the Casey Stengel-Ralph Houk-Yogi Berra era. During that period, the Yankees captured 14 pennants in 16 years. Golenbock signed the front end-page of this 1975 first edition published by Prentice-Hall. The signature in ballpoint, personalized to an individual characterized as a “die-hard Yankee fan,” is 10 of 10. Golenbock added the date, June 1, 1979. Ex-m book, vg-ex dj. Lot 794.  “Hank Greenberg: The Story of My Life” Autographed by Author Ira Berkow. Stated first edition hardback, 1989, signed “To John - With best wishes, Ira Berkow.” Ballpoint inscription and signature are 10 of 10. Debilitated by cancer while writing his memoirs, Greenberg asked Berkow, a sports columnist for The New York Times, to complete his work. Inside the book, which otherwise is nm, the tips of about a dozen pages were turned down. The dust jacket has a ¼” tear and otherwise is nm. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
