As a player, Bamberger pitched in 10 games over three seasons in the 1950s for the Giants and Orioles. Besides Milwaukee, he managed the Mets. He died in 2004. Lot 304. Autograph of Umpire Steve Palermo on the Cover of the July 6, 1992 SI. Considered one of baseball’s top umpires, Palermo was shot and paralyzed below the waist while trying to stop two muggers. After the shooting, he became one of Major League Baseball’s umpire supervisors and a motivational speaker. Cover only, “#14” added after Palermo’s sharpie 10 autograph.
